 A dialogue between two friends about village life and city life

A dialogue between myself and my friend (Tony) about village life and city life

is given below:

Myself:    Hello, Tony. How are you?

Tony:      Fine, thanks. What about you?

Myself: I am well. However, what’s experience about last visit to your own village?

Tony: Yes, you know I like my village very much. Village life is always an attraction for me.

Myself: Why is it?

Tony: Because village life is more charming and interesting than city life.

Myself: Sorry, I can’t agree with you on some points. All the modern amenities              and comforts are available in the city life. For this reason, to me city                       seems to be more attractive.

Tony: But can you deny the exquisite natural beauties and other facilities of village life?

Myself: Well advantages of living in a city are unique, which we can’t get in the rural area.

Tony: What are the major advantages of living in a city?

Myself: In a city life, we can get electricity, gas and pure water. We can also                     enjoy satellite TV, the internet, air conditioned shopping malls,                               museum,  public library, zoo, botanical gardens and all reputed school                 colleges and universities.

Tony: But the facilities of village life are not available in the city.

Myself: What are the benefits of living in a country life?

Tony: Fresh air, lots of free space, green fields and sunshine make us                              comfortable in a village. Fresh foods, vegetables, milk, fish all seasonal                  fruits always tempt us to live country home.

Myself: But the life of village is slower. Transportations and roads are not                       adequate and available.

Tony: City life also has some disadvantages. City life is full of chaos. The city                  life is over burdened with smoke of vehicles, with conspiracy of self                       centered people.

Myself: Really you have laid a very significant point. In fact, both the city life                 and village life have some different tastes of their own. Someone may                  find an unmixed delight returning to the lap of nature from the din and                bustle of city life.

Tony: Thanks a lot for this realization.

Myself: Okay. See you again.

Tony: Bye.

আস্‌সালামু আলাইকুম । আশা করি আল্লাহর রহমতে সবাই ভালো আছেন।

আজকে Summary লেখার সহজ নিয়ম গুলো নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো ।

 Summary কী?

Summary হচ্ছে সারমর্ম। সহজভাবে  বলা যায় যে, অনেক কথাকে অল্প কথায় প্রকাশ করার জন্যে যা লেখা হয় সেটাই হলো Summary.

সারসংক্ষেপ করার জন্য, আপনাকে অবশ্যই একটি অনুচ্ছেদ ভালোভাবে পড়তে হবে, মূল ধারণাগুলি এবং সমর্থনকারী ধারণাগুলি খুঁজে বের করতে হবে। তারপরে আপনাকে অবশ্যই সংক্ষেপে সেই ধারণাগুলি কয়েকটি বাক্য বা একটি অনুচ্ছেদে লিখতে হবে।

একটি সারাংশ একটি পরিচায়ক বাক্য দিয়ে শুরু হয় যাতে পাঠ্যটির শিরোনাম, লেখক এবং পাঠ্যটির মূল পয়েন্ট উপস্থাপিত হয় । একটি সারাংশ শুধুমাত্র মূল পাঠ্যের ধারণা ধারণ করে। এক্ষেত্রে আপনি যদি বেশি লেখে থাকেন তবে নম্বর বেশি না পেয়ে কম পাবেন এমনকি নম্বর না পাওয়ার সম্ভবনা আছে।

 

Summary লেখার সময় যে বিষয়গুলো লক্ষ রাখতে হবে:

পরীক্ষার খাতায় শিক্ষার্থীরা Summary সঠিক নিয়মে না লেখার কারণে আশানুরূপ নম্বর পাওয়া যায়না।

1. মূল Passage এর ৩ ভাগের ১ ভাগ লিখতে হবে। (One third of the passage)
2. ৭/৮ বাক্যের বেশি লেখা যাবেনা । (Depending of the size of the passage)
3. Summary Writing এ Summary এর জন্য কোনো প্রকার Title দেয়া যাবে না।
4. Summary তে কোনো Numbering/ bulleting করা যাবেনা ।
5. মূল Passage এর মূল ধারণা স্পষ্টভাবে লিখতে হবে।
6. মূল পাঠ্য থেকে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পয়েন্ট, আর্গুমেন্ট বা ফলাফলগুলি সংক্ষিপ্ত করে স্পষ্টভাবে লিখতে হবে।
7. পুরো Summary এক প্যারায় লেখতে হবে। এক প্যারার বেশি করা যাবেনা।  (It should be in the form of a paragraph)
8. যদি মূল Passage টিতে দৃষ্টান্তমূলক উদাহরণ, পরিসংখ্যান অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকে, তবে মূল বিষয়গুলিকে সমর্থন করার জন্য সবচেয়ে প্রাসঙ্গিক কয়েকটি অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা যেতে পারে।

9. কিন্তু কোনো প্রশ্নবোধক, Example ও Quote করা লেখা হুবুহু লেখা যাবেনা।
10. Summary অবশ্যই নিজের ভাষায় লিখতে হবে।
11. Connectors এর ব্যবহার বাড়াতে হবে। একাধিক Sentence এর মধ্যে কানেক্টর যোগ করে এক বাক্যে পরিণত করতে হবে।
12. কোনো ভাবেই Passage থেকে হুবহু কোন বাক্য কপি করে লেখা যাবেনা।
13. Summary তে নিজস্ব মতামত, ব্যাখ্যা বা মন্তব্য সন্নিবেশ করা যাবেনা ।
14. Passage টি যদি Past বা Future Tense এ হয়, তবে Summary ওই Tense  লেখা যেতে পারে। তবে স্বাভাবিক অবস্থায় Summary লেখার সময় Present Tense ব্যবহার করা উত্তম। এবং যেই Tense-ই ব্যবহার করা হোক না কেন, সম্পূর্ণ উত্তরে একটি Tense-ই রাখতে হবে।
15. Direct Speech Summary লেখা যাবে না। Indirect Speech এ Summary লিখতে হবে।
16. সারাংশটিকে যুক্তিসঙ্গতভাবে লিখতে হবে, সাধারণত মূল পাঠ্যের মতো একই ক্রমে, এটি পরিষ্কার এবং সহজে Passage এর মূল কথা যাতে বোধগম্য হয়।
