What is Sentence?
A sentence is a group of words giving a complete thought. A sentence must contain a subject and a verb.
Such as:
They play cricket.
I am a teacher.
There are five kinds of sentence :
1. Assertive sentence
2. Interrogative sentence
3. Imperative sentence
4. Optative sentence
5. Exclamatory sentence
sen Assertive sentence
A Sentence that makes a statement is called an assertive or declarative sentence. (either affirmative or negative).
Such as:
A boy plays football.
He does not go there.
Tahnik reads a book.
He does not know how to swim.
Interrogative sentence
A sentence that ask a question is called an Interrogative sentence.
Such as:
What is the boy doing now?
How did you do it?
Is he a teacher?
Does Tuhin get up early?
Imperative sentence
A sentence which expresses order, request, advice, command or proposal is called an Imperative sentence.
Such as:
Speak the truth.
Give me a book.
Do not laugh at the poor.
Never tell a lie.
Let me do the work.
Optative sentence
A sentence that expresses wish, prayer or desire is called an Optative Sentence.
Such as:
May Allah bless you.
May Allah save you.
Long live our president.
Exclamatory sentence
A sentence which expresses pleasure or sorrow or a sudden feeling or a strong emotion of mind is called an exclamatory Sentence.
Such as:
What a wonderful land it is!
How funny it is!
Fie! You are a liar.
What an unhappy life he leads!
Hurrah! we have won the game.
